| Description | Lucius Annaeus Seneca the Younger (c. 4 BCE–65 CE) was a prominent Roman Stoic philosopher, poet, dramatist, and statesman. In the final years of his life, Seneca devoted particular attention to questions of moral self-improvement, and many of his ideas later seemed strikingly close to Christian thought; for this reason he was sometimes regarded as “almost a Christian” and was even credited with a correspondence with the Apostle Paul.
Letters on Ethics to Lucilius, addressed to Seneca’s younger contemporary Lucilius, procurator of Sicily, represents the culmination of his philosophy and life experience. It has probably been Seneca’s most widely read work from the Middle Ages to the present day. Written in a clear and thoughtful style, the Letters can still be read as a guide to living a morally responsible life. This edition presents the complete collection of Seneca’s letters. |
