| Description | Letters to Simon C. is a celebrated collection of letters by the Dutch writer Gerard Reve, addressed to the author Simon Carmiggelt. Reve regarded correspondence with friends as a distinct part of his literary work, equal in significance to his novels and short stories. During this period, he was writing some of his finest books, including The Language of Love, Dear Boys and The Acrobat. His correspondence with Simon C. continued from 1971 to 1975. Reve writes about depression and literary success, politics and the dangers of alcohol, the uncertainties of love and the grace of the Virgin Mary.
Gerard Reve (1923–2006) was an outstanding Dutch writer and one of the major figures of twentieth-century Dutch literature. He openly placed same-sex love and religion at the centre of his work, often provoking intense public debate. |
