| Title | Sovetskoe segodnja: Kul'turnyj resajkling v rossijskom iskusstve i povsednevnosti |
| Description | After the collapse of the USSR, its cultural material did not disappear with the state but continued to exist in new forms — from high literature and contemporary art to television series, computer games and everyday practices. The collective monograph “The Soviet Today” proposes describing this process through the concept of “cultural recycling”: the reuse, transformation and incorporation of elements of the past into new cultural contexts. The contributors deliberately move beyond the two most familiar frameworks for discussing the Soviet legacy — nostalgia and historical trauma. Their subjects include the late Soviet underground, contemporary literature and visual art, Russian television series about the late USSR, the game “Atomic Heart”, approaches to Soviet material culture and the very concept of cultural heritage. These varied examples reveal the concrete mechanisms through which the past is reinterpreted and once again becomes part of the present. |
