Author Schulmann E.
Title Vozvrashhenie gosudarstva. Rossija v nulevye 2000-2012
Description Ekaterina Schulmann’s book examines Russia’s political transformation in the 2000s and the ways in which its institutions changed after the period dominated by expectations of democratic transition. The author approaches history through the gradual transformation of political processes and rules. Particular attention is given to regimes that combine democratic institutions with authoritarian mechanisms and prove far more flexible and adaptable than earlier political science theories had assumed. The book explores how such political systems emerge, why they remain resilient, and how they change under the influence of internal processes and external shocks.

Ekaterina Schulmann is a political scientist. She specializes in contemporary authoritarian regimes, lawmaking, and political institutions. She is currently a nonresident scholar at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center in Berlin and teaches political science at the Free University of Berlin.
