Lermontov M. Geroj nashego vremeni. Sobranie sochinenij (s ill.) (serija Bol'shie knigi)

Author Lermontov M.
Title Geroj nashego vremeni. Sobranie sochinenij (s ill.) (serija Bol'shie knigi)
Description Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov was Pushkin’s younger contemporary and the second great figure of nineteenth-century Russian poetry after him. Fate allowed him only twenty-six years of life and just thirteen years in which to enter the history of world literature. Lermontov’s creative evolution was exceptionally rapid. The Romantic hero of his youthful poetry challenges the entire world. In his later poems, the poet speaks on behalf of a generation. Having moved beyond Romantic rhetoric and absorbed the most important artistic discoveries of his time, Lermontov effectively brought the Golden Age of Russian poetry to a conclusion while opening new horizons for it.

This edition includes poems written between 1828 and 1841, as well as the major narrative poems “Mtsyri”, “The Demon” and “The Song of the Merchant Kalashnikov”. It also contains the play “Masquerade” and the novel “A Hero of Our Time”, which helped inaugurate the era of Russian psychological prose. The volume includes illustrations by nineteenth- and early twentieth-century artists, among them major masters of book illustration.
